I can confirm that at least with ruby 1.9.2dev (2009-08-21 trunk 24613) [i386-solaris2.11] the above mentioned problem is gone.

yes, the error still remains. Just got the last HEAD on the svn server: ruby 1.9.2dev (2009-07-18 trunk 24177) [i386-solaris2.11]. But there is a small difference. This time the error comes from ./tool/rbinstall.rb ... saraiva (Pedro Saraiva)

After running autoconf and doing a ./configure --prefix=/path/to/prefix --with-readline-dir=/path/to/readline --with-o... saraiva (Pedro Saraiva)
