Experiencing similar results with Adrien's benchmark:
With **ruby-2.2.2**: 2.9347980790189467
WIth **ruby-2.1.5**: 1.848318
OS X Yosemite 10.10.3, Journaled HFS+ file system, case insensitive.

Same issue, same clang version as chrisdb.
edit: Scratch that, got the latest command line tools, woks flawlessly.
Apple LLVM version 4.2 (clang-425.0.24) (based on LLVM 3.2svn)
Target: x86_64-apple-darwin12.2.1
